producer / engineer

In 2002, John moved to Boulder, CO to work at the renowned Coupe Studios. He's worked on hundreds of album projects, adding his brand of creativity and vibe to each.

Here's what some folks have said about John's producer work:

"I have been very lucky in my short little life in the music business to work with some pretty talented people in a producer capacity, ie; Bruce Botnik, with Starwood, Denny Randell and Hank Cicala, with Tim Buckley, Chuck Negron with Kindred, Larry Cox, Hollywood Dodgers, Chris Huston, etc. Your ability to get your point across was perfect and your timing was always right on.( not to mention your ideas seemed to work as well!) Great job, and pretty good ears for an older dude!"

"I can't imagine my project without John McVey .  Sometimes it was as simple as finding that perfect harmony part I had been missing or adding the right instrument at the right time.  But I remember being so excited everytime I heard him say, "What if we tried this?"  John posesses a true producer's instinct - he gave me direction without forcing me to sacrifice my musical vision.  His knowlege as a musician, songwriter, singer and engineer makes him one hellofa  well-rounded producer!  And with John there was never an "okay."  We never closed up shop at the end of the night saying, "I guess that's good enough."  His dedication to make every line and every note magical blew me away - at times I felt like he had more of himself wrapped up in my project than I did!  It didn't matter if I botched a line twenty times, he would always look up, smiling, and with the same enthusiasm say, "That's alright!  Let's try it again!"

And to be completely honest, I have never met a nicer guy; generous, patient, understanding and always willing to give everything he had for the music or for a friend.  I'm honored to have gotten the chance to work with John and hope I'll see him behind the booth again!  Also the ladies tell me he has a hot ass... "We couldn't believe how a guy so famous for working with singer/songwriters could produce an album that rocks this hard!"
